Jump Right In

As the serpent is furiously eating its tail
And the Earth, off course, continues turning
The sinners are feverishly repenting,
Trying to escape the hellfires eternally burning,
So there can be no end and no beginning
It must just be this way.

So we are learning to
Jump right in.

The vultures are circling and calling;
Round the hearthfires people huddle
Sifting through the muddy puddles.
The secrets are silent (but perhaps not lost).
Things have been this way
For as long as I can remember.

We have yet to
Jump right in.

On this whirwind we are carried
Somewhere you can almost have a feeling,
If you don't try too hard.
I think I can hear the souls forgotten
And their moaning — low down dirty and rotten.
Small dutiful handshakes and little plastered smiles.
Every day against overwhelming odds.

I can feel the Earth moving us to
Jump right in.

Off over there in the distance
I see the clock tower crumble
As if stricken by an age-old fear of wanting to
Jump right in.

On my left I see an old man sneer
And on my right a young boy's tear.
The colorful decorations cover up and conceal.
Lifelong echos and long abandoned calls.
Can you feel it yet, my dears?

The overwhelming urge to
Jump right in.

I'm emptying my body of wastes;
I'm walking along crowded streets in haste.
Sometimes I even start to run.
I'm not singing or dancing yet...
But I can feel it coming up on me.

I'm going to
Jump right in.
