Freely
We See Neither (Me nor Thee)
A star, a star,
I think I see a star fall
Gaunt like a tightly wrapped corpse...
You sit and wonder
While I roam up and down this street.
Our pleasant little pedantries
Mingle with our dimly half-cornered shadows...
So, my love, let us feed each other
Pastries, pies, and puffs
And watch as our toes sink and squirm into the sand.
(The land arches its back).
Quick, quick
I thought I heard a lark...
What's that?
A lie you've saved, saved up in the dark?
And the ears, half laughing, hee-hee,
He who comes running
First wants to deceive.
Sparks fly and fireworks explode,
Spiral then die with a quiet fizz, lost
Now blending into nocturnal velvet.
You hold my hand while I crumble
Kaboom! How nice and you are the thunder?
So, that dark panther sure is sleek,
Power lies waiting behind the paw.
Not as cute as you look, now are you my friend.
Tumbling, tumbling,
Over the edge.
Drifting, floating, falling all over the floor.
That straw, that hay, hey-hey,
That straw I tossed over your crooked spine.
Hardly worth mentioning at this point.
Perhaps after we've had a chance to dine.
I saw what was precious melt away in an instant,
Fly into the crevices between everything...
And mingle with the dirt.
Funny now how then I...
Wiped your forehead with my shirt.
Hark, hark,
That rambling gypsy woman in the park
Rolling out her muscles each morning
On the ground-in tar.
From where we're sitting now
All those voices seem so distant.
The words seem so far away
They do that just for effect.
I add, well you can correct me as I'm off
On another one of my tangents again...
Chasing myself, my missing tail,
Racing in a hurry to the exit door.
Grab me, grab me,
For I'm slipping away fast.
But don't hold me back if
You think you must come my way.
See, see, over there,
I've lost my lover and found him here...
Singing out the twi-lit evenings to himself,
One day I recognize the tune,
That's how it goes, mmm... that's how it is.
I do recall, now let me join you,
As I think I can sing at last!
The grasping of the raspy gorse,
The perpetual dying and remorse,
Let us drown here together
as the nest pulls us out over our heads
And we wrestle with each other
To get closer...closer still.
Wake me up
(I'm dreaming);
Kick me
(I'm screaming);
Find me
(I'm lying);
Shake me up
(I'm trying);
Come inside now...
(I've been flying)
Closest,
Where I have yet to die.
